10 Health Benefits Of Tea...20 July

10 Health Benefits Of Tea

1. Tea contains antioxidants. Like the Rust-Oleum paint that keeps your outdoor furniture from rusting, tea's antioxidants protect your body from the ravages of aging and the effects of pollution.

2. Tea has less caffeine than coffee. Coffee usually has two to three times the caffeine of tea (unless you're a fan of Morning Thunder, which combines caffeine with mate, an herb that acts like caffeine in our body). An eight-ounce cup of coffee contains around 135 mg caffeine; tea contains only 30 to 40 mg per cup. If drinking coffee gives you the jitters, causes indigestion or headaches or interferes with sleep -- switch to tea.

3. Tea may reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. Unwanted blood clots formed from cholesterol and blood platelets cause heart attack and stroke. Drinking tea may help keep your arteries smooth and clog-free, the same way a drain keeps your bathroom pipes clear. A 5.6-year study from the Netherlands found a 70 percent lower risk of fatal heart attack in people who drank at least two to three cups of black tea daily compared to non-tea drinkers.

4. Tea protects your bones. It's not just the milk added to tea that builds strong bones. One study that compared tea drinkers with non-drinkers, found that people who drank tea for 10 or more years had the strongest bones, even after adjusting for age, body weight, exercise, smoking and other risk factors. The authors suggest that this may be the work of tea's many beneficial phytochemicals.

5. Tea gives you a sweet smile. One look at the grimy grin of Austin Powers and you may not think drinking tea is good for your teeth, but think again. It's the sugar added to it that's likely to blame for England's bad dental record. Tea itself actually contains fluoride and tannins that may keep plaque at bay. So add unsweetened tea drinking to your daily dental routine of brushing and flossing for healthier teeth and gums.

6. Tea bolsters your immune defenses. Drinking tea may help your body's immune system fight off infection. When 21 volunteers drank either five cups of tea or coffee each day for four weeks, researchers saw higher immune system activity in the blood of the tea drinkers.

7. Tea protects against cancer. Thank the polyphenols, the antioxidants found in tea, once again for their cancer-fighting effects. While the overall research is inconclusive, there are enough studies that show the potential protective effects of drinking tea to make adding tea to your list of daily beverages.

8. Tea helps keep you hydrated. Caffeinated beverages, including tea, used to be on the list of beverages thatdidn't contribute to our daily fluid needs. Since caffeine is a diuretic and makes us pee more, the thought was that caffeinated beverages couldn't contribute to our overall fluid requirement. However, recent research has shown that the caffeine really doesn't matter -- tea and other caffeinated beverages definitely contribute to our fluid needs. The only time the caffeine becomes a problem as far as fluid is concerned is when you drink more than five or six cups of a caffeinated beverage at one time.

9. Tea is calorie-free. Tea doesn't have any calories, unless you add sweetener or milk. Consuming even 250 fewer calories per day can result in losing one pound per week. If you're looking for a satisfying, calorie-free beverage, tea is a top choice.

10. Tea increases your metabolism. Lots of people complain about a slow metabolic rate and their inability to lose weight. Green tea has been shown to actually increase metabolic rate so that you can burn 70 to 80 additional calories by drinking just five cups of green tea per day. Over a year's time you could lose eight pounds just by drinking green tea. Of course, taking a 15-minute walk every day will also burn calories.

Sustainability Today
 by: Dayna Schueth
Achieving a sustainable lifestyle today is of paramount importance for the health of future generations. The devastation of our natural environment by individuals and corporations who carelessly pollute the water and air, clearcut forests, and destroy topsoil and natural habitats is in many cases irreversible. Those of us living an urban or suburban lifestyle may just be beginning to feel the repercussions of our industrial lifestyle in the form of climate change. However, the perpetuation of anti-environment practices is sure to cause consequences that we cannot even imagine.

The world in which we live is a system in which all elements interrelate and coexist in a harmonious balance of creation and destruction. Nothing exists or functions in isolation. Everything is interconnected and every act affects the future of countless other elements. This concept, also known as systems thinking, is easy to see when observing an ecosystem, especially when the harmony of that ecosystem is disrupted. The extinction or reduction of one species rebounds through the entire food chain, causing havoc on the lives of the rest of the species.

A sustainable lifestyle is one that seeks to harmonize with the elements of the natural world. We can use the forces of nature to our advantage, without abusing them and causing as little disturbance to the natural environment as possible. One such example is harnessing the energy of the sun. Solar energy can be captured in a variety of ways. The most basic way, passive solar energy, refers to the type of construction materials used and their placement. For example, a house designed to face the south allows the heat of the sun to warm the house all day long. Add to that other passive solar features such as thermal mass and the house is already well on its way to energy-independence.

Industrialism and the Information Age have provided our society with the tools it needs to reverse our current path of environmental degradation. Solar panel technology and the multitude of other inventions for collecting the energy of the sun are constantly improving and becoming more affordable. We may also gather energy from the wind, water, ground and even our own waste products.
The key to becoming sustainable as individuals and as a society is our own willingness to change and to be creative. Permaculture is a design system that guides us to build and manage sustainable living and working environments in which all of the elements overlap and interrelate to create a functioning whole. Combining our knowledge of ecological principles with our earth-friendly technology we have only to succeed in achieving a more sustainable lifestyle today, and a brighter future for our children and grandchildren.

Surgeries, diet and exercise regimes, diet pills and many other options are available for weight loss these days and some of them have proved effective to lose weight, however, the real problem is these options show their effect only for a limited time and their good results are not lasting at all.

A Guide to Men's Summer Fashion

Summer is here - which means it's time to pull out those shorts, t-shirts and sandals that rarely see the light of day during the rest of the year. While some items of clothing are staples of summer wear every year - for example, polo shirts and relaxed jeans - each summer also brings with it a set of unique seasonal looks. This summer, it's all about pastels, neutrals, and tailored pieces, not to mention the "all white" and "all American" looks. Get the scoop on this season's hottest fashion trends, and get ready to look great all summer long.

First off, don't neglect the basics: pick up some pastel-coloured polo shirts, khaki shorts, chinos and trousers, as well as a few tailored shirts - also in pastel or neutral colours. You'll also want to do your feet a favour this year and ditch those plastic flip-flops for some nice leather flip-flops or quality leather sandals. The sandals will look great with more refined-looking wardrobe pieces - like chinos or tailored shorts - while the leather flips flops will look great with more casual outfits - like jeans and Polo shirts - without looking cheap. If you prefer more enclosed footwear, opt for a pair of chic deck shoes or loafers.

Heading out on the town? Don't be afraid to throw some colour into the mix of your formalwear. Whether you incorporate a splash of orange in an otherwise subdued colour scheme, or dress in bold colours from head to toe, the fashion scene will embrace your colour-happy attitude this season.

If you plan on hitting the beach or the pool this summer, you'll need a pair of stylish swim shorts. Retro is in this season, so head to your local vintage shop to pick up a pair - you'll not only pick up something unique, but you'll save some cash too. While you're at it, snag yourself some hip sunglasses; you can't go wrong with Aviators, Clubmasters or Wayfarers this summer.

Last but not least, the jumper is another key piece to consider when pulling together your summer wardrobe. The weather might be warming up, but it's more than likely that a few chilly nights will make their way into the British summer. So stock up on a few Armani pullovers or Lyle and Scott jumpers and stay cosy. Opt for a cotton elbow-length sleeve sweater (paired over a tailored button-down shirt) to get that Twenties-riviera-meets-rugby look.

So, with some of this summer's top trends in mind, you're more than ready to put your fashion foot forward. Just remember that keeping up with summer fashion doesn't mean you have to re-do your entire wardrobe or break the bank. Incorporating just a few quality seasonal pieces will help update your wardrobe and ensure you look great all summer long.

How to Appear Offline to Specific People on Facebook Chat

One of the reasons Facebook is very popular is because of it’s chat feature. You can chat with your friends on the website. But there it’s quite touch to ignore people on Facebook chat as there is no option to put a busy or not available status, there is not even a invisible option like in other messengers.
But you can do one thing to solve that problem. You can be offline for a specific group of people.

Create Friends Lists

Before you can appear offline to specific people, you need put your friends into lists so that you can tell Facebook which friends you want to be hidden from. If you haven’t already grouped your friends into lists, then you can do so now following these steps.
From the Account menu in the top right of Facebook select “Edit Friends.” You’ll now be at the friends page where you can delete and search through your friends. Click on “Create a List” at the top of the page.

From the “Create a New List” window enter a name for your list and then select all the friends that you’d like to add to that list.
Side note: The next time you add a new friend or accept a friend request, you’ll be able to add them to one of your lists right away.

Once you finish creating your lists, the next thing to do is open Facebook Chat and move on to the next step.

Go Offline to Specific Friend Lists

Now when you open Facebook Chat, you should be able to see all of your Friend Lists that you just created. Each group will have a slider to the far right of the name; the slider will show green by default (meaning you’re showing online to that group).

In order go offline to that specific group of friends, you’ll need to click on the slider so that it turns gray. This will make you show offline those friends only. That’s it!

Hide Friend Lists in Chat

Finally, if you plan to always stay offline to a specific group, then you might as well totally hide that list from displaying in your chat window. You know the saying, “out of sight, out of mind.”
This step is pretty easy.

Just click on “Friend Lists” from the Facebook Chat window and then click on the list that you want to hide. The lists without a check mark next to them are the ones that are hidden.
That’s it, it will no longer display in your chat window until you choose to display it again.
Side note: You can even hide groups that you do show online to.

NOKIA N9

Introducing the Nokia N9: all it takes is a swipe!

SINGAPORE – At the Nokia Connection event in Singapore , Nokia introduced the Nokia N9, the first-ever pure touch smartphone that is all about making things simpler. Nokia N9 focuses on the most important things that people do: use apps, get notifications and switch between different activities. Navigating the UI is done with a simple gesture, a swipe of a finger. Let’s have a closer look at what the Nokia N9 is bringing to the game.

SWIPE

The team behind the MeeGo-based Nokia N9 brought together elements of industrial design, software development and user interface advancements, as well as a developer platform to create a better way to use a phone. All that’s needed to use the Nokia N9 is a simple gesture, a swipe of the finger. It is an intuitive way to use all the different features and functions. Whenever you are in an application, you just swipe from the edge of the screen to go back home.

UNIBODY DESIGN

The Nokia N9 has a beautiful one-piece, unibody design where the hardware and software fit together seamlessly. The large, 3.9 inch curved glass AMOLED display lets the applications shine and take full benefit of the user interface. Thanks to the innovative laminated display technology, it looks like applications are literally floating on top of the screen. The body of the Nokia N9 is made from the best in polycarbonate material engineering today, enabling superior antenna performance over most other competitors’ smartphones. This means better reception, better voice quality and fewer dropped calls. The Nokia N9 comes in three colours: black, cyan and magenta and with large storage capacities of 16GB and 64GB on the two variants to be made available.

NO BUTTONS

The Nokia N9 is the world’s first pure touch screen phone without any front-facing buttons at all. You unlock the phone by just double-tapping the screen.

THREE HOME VIEWS

The user interface in Nokia N9 is designed around the things people typically use the most. This is why there are three recognizable home views arranged in a carousel: 1) Applications for launching and organizing your apps. 2) Events for social networking feeds and notifications for calls, texts, calendar events, etc. 3) Open applications for switching between all live apps you have used recently. You can pinch and zoom the screen to see either four or nine open app icons. In fact, the Nokia N9 delivers the best multitasking experience on any phone!

POWERFUL CAMERA

The 8MP auto focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and super wide 28mm lens works faster from start to capture than any other manufacturer’s smartphone camera in the market. HD video and true 16:9 resolution photos are supported. You can share your photos via MMS, email, NFC and many online services including Flickr and Facebook.

FAST WEB BROWSER

The fast web browser is built on the latest Webkit 2 technology. Even while loading a web page, the screen remains responsive. You can have several browser windows open in the open applications view and switching between them is, again, fast and easy. Favourite websites are shown as visual thumbnails, supported by a full browsing history. Wide HTML5 support offers access to rich web applications and fast video playback.

LATEST MAPS

The Nokia N9 has the latest Nokia Maps with free, voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation for walking and driving. There is also a dedicated Drive app for in-car navigation, which lets you start navigating to your destination instantly after entering your destination. Public transport routing in 85 cities means you can find the quickest route on foot or by tram, metro or train. You can also discover nearby places with cafés, shops, hotels and more, all marked along the way.

DOLBY SOUND
Dolby Headphone and Dolby Digital Plus support on the Nokia N9 turns regular stereo audio into personal surround sound on any headphones – first on any mobile phone.

NFC-ENABLED

Pairing between NFC-enabled accessories is easier than ever before – you do Bluetooth pairing only once and after that you can connect to them just by touching. You can also share content like photos or business cards via NFC.
